A walk in the mist
When Theo was born, I stayed home on Telegraph Hill to take care of him. One day I heard about a project called Second Life.
I walked in the mist with him in the Bugaboo to look up through the windows of the company I knew would change the world.
An Intro that changed everything
They were impossible to reach, but Alexander Rose of the Long Now Foundation made an introduction. I joined as Evangelist, part of a team that made something historic.
Then we moved to the East Coast.
A taste while building
In 2014 Alexander showed me the half-finished interior of the Interval, a small bar in Fort Mason that would one day house a model of the Clock.
He offered me a taste of the gin they had made with juniper and 5000 year old bristlecone pine from their mountain. The spirits moved me and I glimpsed the future.
Time Passes
While the Interval was being built, I bought a bottle of bristlecone gin. In the years that followed, I came back to the Interval a few times.

The puzzle pieces clicked
The problem was the bottle. In twelve years I had visited a few times, and I didn't know its status.
I finally came to San Francisco in late September, and by coincidence it was Philip's birthday. The puzzle pieces clicked. I walked to the Interval, paid the tab to refill the bottle, and changed the names on it.
